Two week update! April 3, 2021

Early on Thursday March 18 I departed Luray, VA with a friend headed to Shipshewana Indiana, home to Wana RV sales. The drive was around 625 miles which is 75 miles further than the Centreville, VA to Portland, ME trip that I have completed numerous times. The roads were good and the traffic was light so it ended up being an enjoyable excursion with the possible exception of a couple of hours of high wind, rapidly dropping temperatures and some snowflakes.

We stopped in LaGrange just a few miles from our destination to visit Fireside Craft Burgers and Brews. We were able to sit at the bar and speak with the owner for awhile.

The next morning I went to Wana RV and had a walk thru and inspection and got on my way.

The trailer only weighs 6,000 lbs and with the weight distribution hitch I added the pulling was nice and easy. The wind was not much of a factor today and we easily met our goal of 200 miles. I belong to a RV group called Harvest Hosts who have signed up a network of farms, breweries, wineries and attractions who will let travelers camp out overnight on their property.

Dalton Union Brewery and Winery in Marysville Ohio was stop #1. It almost felt like normal times with friendly people and good beer.

I went outside at 3am and there was a lot of howling going on which was unexpected. We got an early start with the goal of 1812 Brewery outside of Cumberland, MD. This would be a 300 mile day with a slog up and down some mountains. It turned out to be much easier than expected.

The 1812 Brewery was also an excellent venue. We arrived around 3 and the weather was sunny and pleasant.

The place had a large number of separate areas to enjoy yourself. It was a fun time with musical entertainment and the food truck was awesome to boot.

Then off to Bull Run Campground for a 2 week stay. Close to where I lived for 20 years, It was convenient to stay there and visit with friends and still enjoy some nature time. I managed to get 10k steps on most days mostly due to the emergence of the Bluebells. The are a very attractive sight due to their large numbers . Not peak-bloom time while I was there but only days away. The only negative to the campground is that their is a shooting range nearby – especially close to Site 40 where I stayed. Hearing gunshots echo through the day required some adjustment on my part. Sites further away may be muffled by the trees later in the year.
